Position Overview: The Andrews Reading and Writing Center Tutors work with the Reading and Writing Center (R and W) Coordinator within the Academic Success Center (ASC) to provide academic support devoted to reading and writing for students at all levels. The tutors, reporting to the Reading and Writing Center Coordinator and the ASC Director, are key players in supporting the success and persistence of all students.

  • Support the R and W Coordinator and ASC Director in the implementation and refinement of practices focused on learning assistance, tutoring, and peer education, with a focus on reading and writing.
  • Participate in proactive programming and innovative strategies to enhance student learning.
  • Holistic Student Support and Outreach
  • Remains available, responsive, and approachable while working with students via all tutoring modalities.
  • Creates an environment that is open and encouraging to all students.
  • Assist with events and workshops to support students in extra-disciplinary and co-curricular activities and skills.
  • Promote the Andrews Reading and Writing Center, the Academic Success Center, and other available resources.
  • Organizational Culture
  • Assist the R and W Coordinator by maintaining a personal schedule in the ASC’s scheduling software.
  • Perform activities to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the Andrews Reading and Writing Center.
  • Program Innovation
  • Assist with the development and routine operations of the ASC.
  • Communicate needs for program, policy, or process improvements to the R and W Coordinator.
  • Fiscal Stewardship
  • Work with the ASC Coordinator to submit accurate time sheets for payroll in a timely manner.

Qualifications

An earned Bachelor’s degree in English or writing-intensive discipline from a regionally accredited institution. Demonstrated expertise in contemporary best practices in learning assistance. Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with computers and other forms of technology utilized in providing high-quality instruction and the understanding and successful use of learning technology. A passion for student success.

Office Duties

Maintain regular hours in person and online as assigned, assist with phone calls and office communication as needed, and attend staff training. Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the department leadership and in conjunction with the Division of Academic affairs initiatives.

Pay Range: $12.00 - $20.00/Hr dependent upon degree achievement
