The assigned sales territory for this position includes the following California counties:

  • Los Angeles County
  • Orange County
  • Riverside County
  • Imperial County
  • San Diego County

The Company reserves the right to modify or adjust assigned territories as business needs require.

Position Overview

A Commercial Solar Sales Representative is responsible for generating new business opportunities, developing client relationships, and securing commercial solar energy projects for Huff Energy Solutions. This role focuses on business development, lead generation, proposal development, and sales closure for commercial and industrial solar projects.

The Independent Contractor will serve as the primary point of contact for prospective clients throughout the sales process and work closely with internal engineering, estimating, and project management teams to ensure successful project development and execution.

This position is performance-driven and commission-based, requiring strong self-motivation, professionalism, and industry knowledge.

Contractor shall retain control over the manner, means, methods, and timing of performing services, subject only to the desired business results and compliance with applicable laws, safety requirements, and customer obligations. Contractor may perform services for other businesses or clients, provided such activities do not create a conflict of interest.

Detailed Work Activities

  • Generate and develop new commercial solar sales opportunities within the assigned territory.
  • Prospect and follow up on leads through networking, referrals, cold calling, marketing campaigns, and industry relationships.
  • Conduct client meetings, site visits, and energy consultations.
  • Prepare and present solar proposals, financial analyses, and project presentations.
  • Develop accurate preliminary project estimates and coordinate with internal estimating and engineering teams.
  • Educate clients on solar energy systems, financing structures, tax incentives, utility programs, and return on investment.
  • Maintain consistent communication with prospective and existing customers.
  • Build and maintain long-term client relationships.
  • Negotiate and secure signed contracts.
  • Collaborate with project management and operations teams to support successful project execution.
  • Contractor may utilize company CRM systems for coordination and project tracking purposes.
  • Contractor agrees to reasonably communicate project status updates necessary for operational coordination.
  • Attend networking events, trade shows, and industry conferences to promote company services.
  • Stay informed on market trends, commercial solar regulations, utility programs, and tax credit opportunities.
  • Provide reasonable project updates and sales pipeline information necessary for operational coordination and customer support.
  • Represent the company in a professional and ethical manner at all times.
  • Provide additional sales and business development services mutually agreed upon by Contractor and Company.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Previous experience in commercial solar sales, construction sales, energy sales, or related business development roles preferred.
  • Strong understanding of commercial solar systems, financing structures, and energy savings analysis.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local solar incentives and tax credit programs.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans, utility bills, and project specifications.
  • Strong presentation, negotiation, and closing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional client relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CRM systems, and proposal software.
  • Familiarity with Helioscope, Aurora, or similar solar design software is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

Performance Expectations

  • Contractor is expected to actively pursue commercial solar opportunities and maintain a consistent level of sales activity reasonably necessary to support successful project development.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of qualified commercial opportunities.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and responsiveness with clients and team members.
  • Maintain accurate sales reporting and forecasting.
  • Stay current on industry trends, financing solutions, and regulatory updates.
  • Consistently represent the company’s values and commitment to customer service.

Compensation

  • $75,000 - $250,000+ annually (100% commission-based).
  • This is an Independent Contractor position compensated through commissions.
  • Commission structure will be outlined in a separate Independent Contractor Commission Agreement.
  • Commission eligibility is subject to project completion, customer payment, and company approval requirements.
  • Compensation may include referral incentives and performance bonuses where applicable.
  • Contractor is responsible for all applicable taxes, insurance, licensing, and business expenses unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Work Environment

  • Combination of office, remote, and field work environments.
  • Frequent travel throughout the assigned Southern California territory for client meetings and site visits.
  • Contractor maintains discretion over the manner and scheduling of services performed, subject to client availability, project timelines, and mutually agreed business objectives.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to drive to meetings and project sites.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use standard office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally walk construction sites and outdoor environments.

Independent Contractor Relationship

This position is classified as an Independent Contractor relationship. Nothing in this agreement shall be interpreted as creating an employer-employee relationship, partnership, or joint venture. Contractor is responsible for maintaining all required business licenses, insurance, and tax obligations.

Contractor represents that Contractor is customarily engaged in an independently established business relating to sales, consulting, marketing, energy services, construction services, or similar commercial activities.
