Sheet’ká Rainforest Park is seeking knowledgeable Cultural Consultants to support Indigenous programming on a part-time, on-call basis. There are multiple positions available to support a variety of program areas based on your knowledge set including; cultural training for staff, support in the development of interpretive signage, and development of cultural content and activities. The ideal candidate brings deep understanding of Tlingit culture especially Sheet’ká Kwáan and excels at teaching, guiding, and supporting others in cultural awareness, storytelling, and respectful engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Support for Staff Training

  • Work with management to develop and lead cultural orientation for all staff at the start of the season.
  • Offer guidance on key topics such as:
  • Tlingit history, values, and protocols
  • Oral history, clan structure, traditional values
  • Traditional art forms
  • Subsistence foods and practices.
  • Local place-based knowledge
  • Cultural sensitivity and respectful guest interaction
  • Participate in ongoing summer training sessions to reinforce knowledge, answer questions, and support staff growth.
  • Offer guidance to staff on integrating accurate cultural context into guest conversations, tours, and daily operations.
  • Collaborate with Elders, culture bearers, and community partners when appropriate.
  • Uphold cultural accuracy, respect, and alignment with traditional values across all training activities.
  • Model professionalism and traditional values for all staff.

Indigenous Programs

  • Support efforts to integrate Indigenous culture and values across Shee Atiká’s family of companies
  • Support programming that focuses on cultural revitalization and Indigenous knowledge sharing.
  • Review and provide feedback on interpretive materials and cultural content.
  • Serve as a cultural resource when questions or cultural situations arise.

General Responsibilities

  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities as appropriate.
  • Maintain professional communication with Sheet’ká Rainforest Park and Shee Atiká staff.
  • Support a positive and culturally grounded workplace culture.
Requirements:

Minimum Candidate Requirements

Candidate must be able to work for any employer in the United States without work sponsorship.

Candidate must have experience with the following:

  • Experience in cultural interpretation, tourism, education, or community programming.
  • Familiarity with Southeast Alaska ecology and salmon traditions.
  • Strong communication and cultural storytelling abilities.
  • Passion for cultural revitalization and knowledge sharing
  • Tlingít or other Alaska Native language skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Elders, culture bearers, and diverse staff teams.
  • Commitment to cultural authenticity, respectful representation, and ongoing learning.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions as needed.

Desired skills, knowledge, and experience

  • Lived experience as a Tlingit or Alaska Native person.

Work Environment

This is an in-person position in an office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Occasional business travel may be required. Only requested and approved expenses will be covered by SAI.
