Job Description

Job description

Since its founding in 2015, 1X has been at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids.

We strive for excellence in all we do, solving some of the hardest problems in robotics with the world’s most talented individuals. Every part of our robots is designed and produced in-house—from motor coils to AI—reflecting our vertically integrated approach. At 1X, you’ll own real projects, be recognized for your achievements, and rewarded based on merit.

We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.

We are seeking a versatile and hands-on Robotics Test Engineer to join our new, high-impact test team. This is not a traditional, siloed testing role. You will be a key player in our engineering organization, working at the intersection of hardware, firmware, and software. Your mission will be to ensure our robots are robust, reliable, and ready for the real world by supporting the full product lifecycle—from early-stage R&D characterization to final production validation.

Why this job is exciting

The ideal candidate is a "T-shaped" engineer: someone with a deep expertise in one area (like software automation or electromechanical systems) but with the curiosity and skill to work across the entire robotics stack. You are a builder and a problem-solver who is just as comfortable writing a Python script to automate a test as you are with an oscilloscope debugging a tricky hardware issue.

Responsibilities

  • Test Development & Automation:

Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable test automation frameworks in Python and C++.

Architect and build custom hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test systems and mechanical/electrical test fixtures to simulate real-world conditions.

  • Test Planning & Documentation (The Foundation):

Author and maintain clear, concise test plans, test procedures, and test cases based on product requirements and technical specifications.

Develop and manage test matrices to ensure adequate coverage across different hardware, software, and firmware configurations.

Create detailed, data-driven test reports that communicate results and risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Maintain traceability from system requirements to test case execution and results.

  • Hands-On Testing & Debugging:

Execute a wide range of tests, including:

Exploratory & Characterization Testing on new R&D prototypes.

Performance & Reliability Testing to push our systems to their limits.

System-Level Verification & Validation against formal requirements.

Lead the debugging and root cause analysis of complex, multidisciplinary issues that span the entire robotics stack.

Become a system-level expert, understanding how all the subsystems interact to deliver product-level features.

Job requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in a test engineering, systems integration, or related role.

  • Strong programming proficiency in Python and/or C++.

  • Hands-on experience with common lab equipment, such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and power supplies.

  • Solid understanding of embedded systems, microcontrollers, and communication protocols (e.g., CAN, I2C, SPI).

  • Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a methodical, data-driven approach to debugging.

It will be nice if you had

  • Experience working with test automation frameworks

  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and Linux environments.

  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Onshape) for designing test fixtures.

  • Familiarity with agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).

  • A genuine passion for robotics and building things.

Location Policy

We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.

We're excited to get to know you and the prospects of having you on board!

All done!

Your application has been successfully submitted!
