Environmental Health & Safety Specialist | Plainwell, MI

Salary Range: $64,000 - $97,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local EHS regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct regular EHS audits and inspections to identify hazards, assess risks, and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for all employees, including new hire orientation and ongoing refreshers.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions for accidents and near misses.
  • Manage hazardous waste streams, including proper storage, labeling, disposal, and record-keeping.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs such as Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, and Machine Guarding.
  • Maintain accurate EHS records, prepare regulatory reports, and track key performance indicators.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3-5 years of EHS experience, specifically within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
  • Proven ability to conduct hazard assessments, implement EHS programs, and deliver training.
  • Experience with incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with EHS management software platforms (e.g., Cority, Gensuite, Intelex).
  • HAZWOPER 24 or 40-hour certification.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or experience with continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience conducting ergonomic risk assessments.
  • Certified Internal Auditor for ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001.
