DESIGN ASSISTANT About Us Inspired by the raw edge glamour of downtown New York, Dana Foley NYC is an ever-evolving collection of timelessly chic, yet playful pieces. Dana's designs are made in small, limited runs, slowly building a collection of core pieces along the way. The pieces are made with the help of local patternmakers and sewers, cut in high quality natural fibers. Along with her own collection, Dana also offers a limited selection of niche vintage pieces. Role Overview Dana Foley NYC is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Assistant Designer to work closely with the Creative Director across all stages of the design and development process. This role is ideal for someone who is both creatively minded and operationally strong- someone with a sharp eye for fit, proportion, fabric, and construction who enjoys working in a fast-paced, hands-on studio environment. The position involves daily collaboration with patternmakers, seamstresses, sample rooms, and local vendors, and requires someone who is proactive, adaptable, and solutions-driven. Responsibilities Assist with collection development from initial concept through production Support fabric, trim, lining, and finishing selections Source and organize materials, references, and development assets Maintain swatch libraries, trim boards, fit notes, and development organization Track sample progress, revisions, deadlines, and production handoffs Communicate daily with local vendors, sample rooms, patternmakers Participate in fittings and document detailed notes and corrections Support sketching, technical organization, and studio operations as needed Help coordinate garment development timelines and prioritize workflow across multiple styles Qualifications Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, fabrics, sewing techniques, and product development Strong hand sketching and concept development abilities 2 years Experience working within a fashion studio, sample room, or production environment Strong visual eye for silhouette, drape, proportion, and detail Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities efficiently Familiarity with the NYC Garment District and local vendor network preferred Ability to interpret sketches, fit comments, patterns, and technical notes Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Google Workspace is a plus Ideal Candidate Someone with a strong appreciation for independent fashion, craftsmanship, and downtown New York culture who is excited to contribute within a small, collaborative creative environment.
