Job Description

We are looking for an part-time Accountant (16-20 hours a week) to support a non-profit organization in Rochester, New York through a Contract position. This opportunity is ideal for an accounting specialist who can manage core financial activities, maintain accurate records, and contribute to timely reporting. The role will focus on day-to-day accounting operations while helping ensure compliance with grant-related and general financial requirements.

• Manage daily accounting activities, including processing incoming and outgoing transactions with accuracy and timeliness.

• Prepare and post journal entries to maintain complete and well-organized financial records within the general ledger.

• Reconcile bank accounts regularly to identify discrepancies, resolve issues, and support month-end close activities.

• Oversee accounts payable functions by reviewing invoices, coordinating approvals, and scheduling payments according to organizational procedures.

• Handle accounts receivable tasks, including recording payments, tracking outstanding balances, and following up as needed.

• Support financial tracking and reporting related to government grants, ensuring documentation is accurate and aligned with funding requirements.

• Assist with periodic close processes by reviewing account activity, verifying balances, and preparing supporting schedules.

• Experience performing accounting duties in a detail-oriented setting, preferably within a non-profit environment.

• Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger processes.

• Ability to prepare journal entries and complete bank reconciliations with a high level of accuracy.

• Familiarity with financial oversight related to government grants and related documentation standards.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities within established deadlines.

• Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for financial analysis and recordkeeping.
